More than a thousand people turned out at Drago Park in Icod de los Vinos over the weekend for “Cuentos Bajo el Drago”, a cultural event built around the simple idea of telling stories.
The family and adult programme included music, theatre, creative workshops and guided walks, creating a busy weekend of activities in one of the town’s most recognisable green spaces.
The event was supported by the Icod de los Vinos Town Hall’s tourism department and Icodtesa, led by Gerardo Rizo, and organised in collaboration with the Cultural Association for the Development and Promotion of Reading and Storytelling, headed by Ernesto Rodríguez Abad.
A different side of Icod
The event took place against the backdrop of Icod’s historic town centre and the Casa de Lorenzo Cáceres, with the three-hectare Drago Park providing plenty of space for the different activities.
And it showed that the park has more to offer than simply being somewhere to admire one of Tenerife’s best-known natural landmarks.
With storytelling, culture and the surrounding landscape brought together, the weekend highlighted the potential of Drago Park as a venue for cultural and natural heritage events.
More than 1,000 visitors certainly suggest there is an appetite for it.
