Santa Cruz has pushed back the start of Carnival 2027 by two weeks.
Normally it would’ve kicked off on 8th January… which this time falls just two days after Three Kings. Bit tight, to say the least.
The real issue is practical. The Fairgrounds are still tied up with the tourism fair until the 6th, which leaves barely any time to build the main stage. And if you’ve ever seen the size of that setup, you’ll know it’s not something you throw together over a long weekend.
So the opening gala moves to 22nd January, and the street carnival will now run from 19th to 28th February.
Honestly, it’s probably the right call. Better that than a rushed job and everyone running around like headless chickens trying to make it work.
