Adeje will help accommodate evacuees during a major volcanic emergency exercise taking place in south-west Tenerife on 22 October 2026.
The Los Olivos Sports Centre will be used as a temporary reception and accommodation centre during VOLCANEX Tenerife 2026, a drill designed to test how authorities respond to a potential volcanic emergency.
Guía de Isora to Lead the Exercise
The exercise will take place in the Santiago del Teide-Guía de Isora Zone 2B, an area identified as having a very high volcanic threat.
Guía de Isora has already activated its Municipal Emergency Plan in preparation. The aim is to test coordination between local councils, the Tenerife Cabildo and emergency services if volcanic activity were to require an evacuation.
Adeje will provide municipal resources to support the operation, with the Los Olivos Sports Centre serving as the provisional base for people evacuated during the simulation.
Preparing for a Potential Emergency
Local officials have held meetings with the Cabildo and relevant municipal departments to coordinate the arrangements.
The exercise is intended to test emergency procedures and make sure the different authorities can work together effectively if a real incident occurs.
There is no indication in the announcement that an actual volcanic emergency is taking place. This is a planned exercise, designed to put the response systems through their paces before they might ever be needed.
