Adeje’s patron saint festivities are heading towards their final weekend, with live music, traditional Canarian folklore and the big romería still to come before the celebrations wrap up on Sunday, 18 October.
There’s a bit of everything in the remaining programme, from children’s entertainment and live performances to late-night music and one of the area’s best-known local traditions.
Most of the action takes place in Plaza de España, with events also planned for Calle Grande and the Church of Santa Úrsula.
Music and entertainment through the week
Tuesday, 13 October, sees a children’s festival at Plaza de España from 5.30pm. Ballet Beanky Infantil will perform alongside Camino Viejo Producciones, presenting Cantilandia, ¿cómo están ustedes?
On Wednesday, 14 October, the local School of Music, Dance and Performing Arts takes to the stage from 8.30pm.
Thursday brings the Gala de Mayores, also at 8.30pm, featuring representatives from different neighbourhoods across the municipality and a performance by singer Falete.
Then it’s time for Adeje Vibes on Friday, 16 October. Starting at 9pm in Plaza de España, the line-up includes DJ David Pérez, Aseres, Renzzo el Selector, Arodi Llanos, Aitor Llarena, Stereogroowe and DJ Code.
Plenty to keep you occupied if a quiet night in wasn’t part of the plan.
Saturday is all about music and folklore
Saturday, 17 October, gets underway at midday on Calle Grande with the eighth Festival de Solistas El Mesturao.
There’s a Mass at the Church of Santa Úrsula at 6pm, followed by the 41st Festival de Folclore Villa de Adeje at Plaza de España from 9pm. Organised by the Municipal Folklore School group, the festival celebrates traditional Canarian music and dance.
The evening carries on with a verbena from 11pm, featuring DJ Chagui and the orchestras Corinto and Guaracha.
Sunday brings the traditional romería
The final day, Sunday, 18 October, is the one to watch if you want to experience Adeje’s traditions.
A Romería Mass takes place at the Church of Santa Úrsula at 11am, with an offering of local produce to the municipality’s patron saints, accompanied by the Municipal Folklore School group.
At 1pm, the romería and offering continue along Calle Grande. The celebrations then finish with a grand closing verbena featuring the orchestras Sensación Gomera, Toke Latino and Maquinaria Band.
It’s a chance to see the community come together, with traditional music, local customs and a festive atmosphere that goes well beyond the usual tourist version of Tenerife.
