A powerful piece of documentary theatre is coming to La Salita in Santa Cruz de Tenerife this October, telling the story of one of the darkest periods in Argentina’s recent history.
Seré will be performed on 8, 9 and 10 October at 7.30pm, followed by a Sunday performance on 11 October at 12pm.
The production is built around the testimony of Guillermo Fernández, given during Argentina’s 1985 Trial of the Juntas, and explores the notorious escape from the Mansión Seré, a former clandestine detention centre during the country’s military dictatorship.
Theatre, testimony and memory
The production uses an unusual form of reverse ventriloquism.
The actor on stage takes on the position of the puppet, performing a lip-sync to a recorded testimony. It’s an unusual theatrical device, but one that puts the recorded words and the memory behind them firmly at the centre of the performance.
Seré was awarded the 2025 Argentores Prize for Best Documentary Theatre Work.
The production was created by Lautaro Delgado Tymruk and Sofía Brito, who are responsible for the dramaturgy, direction and overall production.
A conversation with the audience
There will also be a post-show discussion with the audience after Thursday’s performance, giving spectators the opportunity to talk about the work and the history behind it.
