The Tenerife South Restaurant Serving Great Meat and Traditional Dishes for Nearly 40 Years

Chamachete has been serving diners in the south of Tenerife for nearly 40 years and has built a solid reputation for its meat, traditional dishes and rather more interesting menu than you might expect.

Located in Tijoco Bajo, the restaurant has become a familiar choice for people looking for a proper meal rather than another identikit tourist menu.

Food creators from @guachinchesmodernos recently paid Chamachete a visit and came away impressed.

“It’s a renowned place for enjoying great meat, but we were also surprised by the variety of other dishes,” they said.

More than just a steak restaurant

The meal started with a twist on grilled Canarian cheese, served with palm honey and gofio. Rather than simply pouring the honey over the top, Chamachete serves it as a foam. A little different, but apparently it works.

They also tried piquillo peppers stuffed with aged meat and topped with cheese, along with homemade empanadas filled with matured beef.

The sirloin steak was one of the highlights, praised for both its flavour and quality. It is served with a hot stone, allowing diners to finish cooking the meat themselves at the table.

Which is always handy if you and your dining companion have very different ideas about what “medium” actually means.

And something sweet to finish

Dessert options include a yoghurt foam served with mango and passion fruit, as well as crema catalana.

Chamachete is located on the TF-82, General Road, Calle Tijoco, 35, in Tijoco Bajo.

The restaurant currently has a 4.5-star rating on Google and is open from Thursday to Monday, from 12pm until 10.30pm. It is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, presumably giving everyone a chance to put their feet up.
