Tacoronte is about to get a bit more colourful.
On 5 and 6 September, the area around La Estación, between the square and the Municipal Market, will be transformed with nine large floral installations made from natural flowers and plants.
The event is called Tacoronte en Flor, Comercio VIVO, and it’s a new initiative designed to bring a bit more life to the town’s commercial area.
And, let’s be honest, it’s probably a nicer way to encourage people into the shops than another banner telling you there’s free parking somewhere.
Nine floral creations around La Estación
The installations will be created on Friday 4 September before remaining on display throughout the weekend.
Each of the nine large-scale pieces will have its own theme, with Tacoronte itself forming the central inspiration behind the designs.
Information boards will also be placed alongside the installations so visitors can find out more about each one.
The project is being organised by Tacoronte’s Commerce Department, working alongside the Tourism Department and the Floraguere Association.
Local florists will be taking part, along with professionals travelling from other parts of the Canary Islands.
A floral route through the town
The idea isn’t completely new to Tenerife or the Canary Islands.
Similar floral routes have already been organised in places including Gáldar, Guía de Isora and La Laguna, where the combination of flowers, art and local businesses has proved popular.
Tacoronte is now giving the idea its own version, creating a route that encourages people to wander through the area while taking in the displays.
Commerce councillor Leni Ávila said the event will showcase creativity and local craftsmanship while helping to make the shopping area around La Estación more attractive.
Tourism councillor Candelaria Regalado added that the installations are designed to catch people’s attention and bring more activity to the town centre.
So, if you’re in the north of the island that weekend, it could be worth having a wander around Tacoronte.
Nine huge floral displays, local businesses and a stroll around the market area isn’t a bad way to spend an hour or two.
