HYROX Arrives in Tenerife This September

If your idea of a good time involves running, pushing sleds, carrying heavy things and then doing it all again while wondering why you signed up, then Tenerife has something coming your way.

HYROX Tenerife 2026 takes place from 4 to 6 September at the Tenerife Fairgrounds in Santa Cruz, bringing the increasingly popular fitness competition to the Canary Islands for the first time.

And it’s expected to be a big one.

Thousands of athletes and fitness fans from Tenerife and further afield will be heading to Santa Cruz to compete, with some chasing qualification for the HYROX World Championship.

Three days of competition

The event runs across three days, with different categories, doubles races, professional divisions and relays.

Friday 4 September gets underway at 2pm with the HYROX Men’s competition, followed by Men’s and Women’s Doubles, the Women’s event and Mixed Doubles.

Saturday is the big day for the professional categories, starting at 8am and running through to the evening. Pro Doubles, Pro Women and Pro Men are all on the schedule, with the final podium presentations taking place at 9.30pm.

Then on Sunday 6 September, the competition continues with more doubles and women’s events before finishing with the relays at 5.50pm.

The final awards are scheduled for 8pm.

Don’t turn up five minutes before your race

If you’re competing, the organisers aren’t leaving much room for the classic Tenerife approach of “I’ll get there when I get there”.

Registration opens 90 minutes before the first heat in each division and closes 60 minutes before the last heat.

Athletes need to bring physical identification, such as a passport, along with their QR ticket. And if you’ve suddenly decided you want to change something at the last minute, apparently that’s not happening either.

There will also be a Bag Drop service, although you’re limited to one bag per athlete.

What competitors get

Everyone taking part receives a Finisher patch, detailed timing for each exercise station, access to hydration points and age-group ranking points.

Professional photos will also be available through the Sportograf platform using facial recognition.

The competition itself follows the usual HYROX format, combining running with a series of demanding workout stations. Competitors also need to keep track of their laps properly, as getting that wrong can result in penalties. Not ideal after you’ve already spent an hour pushing yourself to the limit.

Whether you’re competing, supporting someone or simply curious to see what all the fuss is about, HYROX Tenerife looks set to bring a very different kind of sporting event to Santa Cruz this September.
