Alien: Earth Season 2 Could Be Filmed in Tenerife This October

Tenerife’s volcanic landscape has played the part of another planet more than once over the years, and it looks as though it might be about to do it again.

Disney+ has applied for permission to film what is believed to be Season 2 of Alien: Earth inside Teide National Park, although the project is currently being referred to by the working title “ALNE S2”.

Nothing has been officially confirmed, but all the signs point towards the next chapter of the popular sci-fi series.

Teide could become an alien world

According to the planning documents, filming would take place at Minas de San José and Llano de Ucanca, two of the most spectacular locations within Teide National Park.

If you’ve ever driven through that part of the island, you’ll know why filmmakers keep coming back. The lava fields and rugged volcanic scenery don’t need much imagination to pass for another planet.

The proposed scenes follow an expedition travelling across a dangerous volcanic world where the group comes under attack before the survivors find shelter in caves.

The production also lists both Alien and Dune as visual inspiration, which doesn’t exactly hide what sort of atmosphere they’re trying to create.

A major production planned for October

If permission is granted, filming is expected to take place between 19th and 30th October 2026, with the main shoot currently scheduled for 20th to 24th October.

As you’d expect from a production of this size, there’ll be plenty of equipment on site, including camera cranes, tracking systems, generators, support vehicles and temporary communications equipment.

There are also plans for temporary traffic restrictions on parts of the TF-21 while filming takes place.

The set itself will include futuristic props, artificial vegetation, wind and fog effects, green screens and a temporary campsite to recreate the harsh alien environment.

Before anyone starts worrying about Teide being turned into a film set, the production has stated that strict environmental measures will be followed and that all locations will be restored once filming has finished.

What is Alien: Earth?

Created by Noah Hawley, the man behind the award-winning series Fargo, Alien: Earth is the first television series set within the Alien universe.

The story takes place two years before Ridley Scott’s original Alien film and follows a group trying to survive encounters with deadly extraterrestrial creatures while facing the powerful Weyland-Yutani Corporation.

Disney and FX have already confirmed that the series has been renewed for a second season, making Tenerife a very likely filming location if the final permits are approved.

It’s always interesting to see the island appearing on screen, even if it’s pretending to be somewhere several million miles away.
