When people think about seafood restaurants in Tenerife, they usually head for the coast. Fair enough…that’s where most of them are.
But tucked away in Arafo is a restaurant that’s doing things a little differently.
Vianda del Mar specialises in fresh fish and seafood, but instead of simply serving the usual grilled fish and prawns, the focus here is on creating dishes that are a bit more imaginative.
If you enjoy trying something different rather than ordering the same meal every time, this could be one to add to your list.
Let the chef decide
You can order from the à la carte menu if you prefer, but the real attraction is the tasting menu.
The kitchen is led by Sebastiano, an Italian chef with more than 30 years of experience, who prepares each menu based on whatever fresh fish and seafood is available that day.
In other words, you don’t choose the dishes…the chef does.
That might sound a bit risky if you’re a fussy eater, but if you enjoy good seafood and like being surprised, that’s part of the experience.
Seven courses of fresh seafood
The tasting menu costs €55 per person, with a minimum of two people.
It includes:
- Seven seafood and fish courses
- Fresh bread
- Water
- Dessert
- Coffee
- A final liqueur
Wine, beer and soft drinks are extra.
The menu changes depending on what’s fresh that day, so no two visits are likely to be exactly the same.
According to local food creator @elsiciliano_tenerife, every course is designed to surprise, reminding him of the tasting menus found back home in Sicily, where each dish follows naturally from the last.
Where is Vianda del Mar?
You’ll find the restaurant on TF-245, 19, Arafo, on Tenerife’s east coast.
Opening times are:
- Thursday to Saturday: 1:00pm to 5:00pm and 8:00pm to 11:00pm
- Sunday: 1:00pm to 5:00pm
- Closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
If you’re the sort of person who enjoys fresh seafood and doesn’t mind letting the chef take the lead, Vianda del Mar sounds well worth a visit.
