The San Pedro Festival in Los Realejos: A Tradition Crowned by Its Famous Fruit Arch

Every year on 29th June, the San Pedro festivities transform Los Realejos into one of Tenerife’s most colourful celebrations, with the famous fruit arch standing as the event’s unmistakable symbol.

Set beside the picturesque San Pedro Hermitage, overlooking the spectacular Rambla de Castro natural area, the celebration attracts locals and visitors alike, many of whom stop to admire the beautifully decorated chapel before continuing down to nearby Socorro Beach.

For generations, families have made a day of the occasion, arriving with baskets of homemade food to enjoy together after visiting the hermitage.

A unique display of craftsmanship

The centrepiece of the festivities is the impressive fruit arch, painstakingly created each year using fresh local produce.

Its intricate design and colourful display have become one of the most recognisable traditions in northern Tenerife, with each edition showcasing the creativity and dedication of the local community.

Alongside the arch, the hermitage is decorated with beautiful floral arrangements that complement its stunning coastal setting.

A cherished local tradition

The San Pedro celebrations hold a special place in the memories of many residents. Although the festivities were interrupted for a period when the historic hermitage fell into disrepair, the restoration of the building has allowed this much-loved tradition to flourish once again.

Today, the restored chapel provides a fitting setting for one of Los Realejos’ most enduring celebrations, where faith, heritage and community spirit continue to come together each summer.

For many, visiting the fruit arch remains an essential part of the feast day, preserving a tradition that has been passed down through generations.
