A restaurant in Puerto de la Cruz has earned a place among the finalists in the 2026 Best Taco in Spain Championship, putting Tenerife firmly on the country’s culinary map.
El Chile Verde secured its place in the prestigious final with its popular Taco de Asada, after impressing both diners and anonymous food inspectors during the nationwide qualifying stage.
One of Spain’s Top 15 Tacos
The fourth edition of the championship attracted hundreds of Mexican restaurants and taquerías from across Spain. Following public voting and evaluations by a panel of undercover gastronomic inspectors, only 15 finalists from 11 autonomous communities were selected to compete in the live final.
The grand finale will take place on 30 June at the Integrated Hospitality and Tourism Training Centre in Gijón, Asturias.
Michelin-Star Jury
El Chile Verde will prepare its Taco de Asada live before a distinguished judging panel featuring Michelin-starred chefs and renowned experts in Mexican cuisine.
The jury includes Ricardo Sotres, chef of Michelin-starred Pancar, Diego Fernández of Michelin-starred Regueiro, Mexican chef Nicolás de la Vega, culinary researcher Rita Sánchez, and food writer Carlos Ciria.
A Proud Moment for Tenerife
Simply reaching the national final is already a significant achievement for the restaurant and a welcome boost for Tenerife’s growing reputation as a gastronomic destination.
The winner of Spain’s Best Taco 2026 will be announced on 30 June, with El Chile Verde hoping to bring the title back to the Canary Islands.
