Some places celebrate wine.
Others celebrate cheese.
Los Realejos celebrates potatoes.
And honestly… the Papa Bonita probably deserves it.
During GastroCanarias 2026, the municipality officially presented the third edition of the Bonita Potato Cooking Competition, which returns on 25 July as part of the Bonita Potato Gastronomic Fair in San Agustín.
A Tenerife Product with Proper Local Identity
The launch included chef Adonis Machuca Rosa, winner of last year’s competition, who returned to showcase the product once again with his dish:
“Falso Risotto de Papa Bonita”
Not bad going for a potato that most visitors probably walk straight past without realising its history.
The Papa Bonita is one of Tenerife’s traditional potato varieties and has become one of the island’s best-known local products.
Competition Returns in July
The event forms part of the wider Fiestas del Carmen programme and will once again bring together culinary professionals to reinterpret this very Canarian ingredient.
Professionals interested in taking part can already consult the competition rules and prepare their entries.
Because apparently in Tenerife…
Even potatoes come with trophies now.
And nobody seems remotely surprised by it.
