Tegueste Introduces Safe Spaces for Its Local Festivities

Festivals are great… until they’re not.

Crowds, alcohol, late nights… things can turn quickly if there’s nothing in place.

Tegueste seems to be getting ahead of that this year.

Puntos Violetas During San Marcos 2026

The town will be setting up two Puntos Violetas during the upcoming San Marcos Evangelista festivities.

If you’ve not come across them before, they’re basically safe points where people can go if something feels off.

They offer:

  • Information
  • Support and accompaniment
  • Help in situations involving harassment or aggression

Simple idea… but important.

When and Where

They’ll be in place during the busiest moments:

  • 17 April – Fiesta Joven
  • 26 April – Romería

There’ll also be a stand at IES Tegueste in the days leading up to the celebrations, sharing information around prevention and awareness.

A Step in the Right Direction

The aim is pretty clear… make sure people can enjoy the fiestas without feeling unsafe or vulnerable.

Not complicated, but it does require effort.

And to be fair, having visible support points like this changes the atmosphere. People know there’s somewhere to go if needed.

The Bigger Picture

This isn’t just a one-off gesture either.

It’s part of a wider push around:

  • Prevention
  • Awareness
  • Creating safer public spaces

Backed by national funding and the wider strategy against gender-based violence.

Good to See?

Yes… because these things shouldn’t be an afterthought.

If you’re heading to the fiestas, you probably won’t need them.

But knowing they’re there… makes a difference.
