Baile de Magos in La Orotava Rescheduled… And It’s Down to Security

One of the main events in La Orotava’s fiestas has had to move… and not for the usual reasons.

The Baile de Magos is being rescheduled due to a lack of available security, linked directly to the upcoming visit of the Pope to the Canary Islands.

What’s Changed

The wider Patron Saint Festivities (15th May to 14th June) will go ahead as planned.

The only change is the date of the Magicians’ Dance… which, if you know the event, is one of the biggest nights in the calendar.

Why It’s Happening

Simple enough.

The Civil Guard and Canary Islands Police will be tied up with the Pope’s visit on 11th and 12th June, which includes Tenerife.

That kind of visit requires a full security operation… and without that level of cover, an event like the Baile de Magos can’t go ahead safely.

So rather than risk it, they’ve moved it.

The Decision

The change was agreed after a meeting between the council, organisers, and local groups involved in the festivities.

Not ideal… but also not something they could really work around.

The Reality

It’s one of those knock-on effects you don’t think about.

Big international visit comes in… and local events have to shift to make space for it.

Still, better a date change than a cancellation.
