They’ve been recording a new anthem ahead of the Pope’s visit to Spain, and instead of keeping it all in one place, they’ve spread it across four cities.
Madrid, Barcelona, Gran Canaria… and Tenerife.
The idea behind it is fairly simple. Make it a choral piece, bring in different artists, and try to reflect a mix of social realities rather than just one polished sound from a studio somewhere.
So what you end up with is something a bit more layered… different voices, different locations, all pulled together into one piece.
The recordings took place this Saturday inside cathedrals in each of those cities, which makes sense. If you’re going to do something like this, you may as well do it properly.
It’s not the usual approach, but that’s probably the point. Less “perfect”, more representative of what’s actually there.
We’ll see what the final version sounds like, but the idea behind it is decent.
