A Small Tavern in Santa Cruz That Octopus Lovers Should Know About

If you enjoy proper local food and generous portions, there’s a small tavern in Santa Cruz that might be worth adding to your list.

It’s called La Agarrada, and you’ll find it just next to the Nuestra Señora de África Market, one of the best known spots in the capital if you’re looking for fresh produce and traditional food.

The place has built up a strong reputation for simple, homemade Canarian cooking at sensible prices, which is always a good sign.

Recently the food creators @guachinchesmodernos stopped by and shared their experience online. According to them, the area around the Santa Cruz market is one of those places where the food rarely disappoints.

And it seems La Agarrada fits that description quite well.

The dish that gets talked about the most is their octopus, which many visitors say is a must if you’re eating there. The texture and flavour get plenty of praise, even if nobody seems entirely sure where the octopus actually comes from.

As one of the creators joked in their video, it could be from Burgos, Galicia or Morocco… but wherever it’s from, it tastes great.

The tavern currently holds a 4.6 rating on Google, which usually means they’re doing something right.

You’ll find La Agarrada at Calle Darias y Padrón, 29, right beside the municipal market in Santa Cruz.

They’re open from 8:30 in the morning until 5pm, although the staff take a well earned break and close on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

If you’re the sort of person who enjoys discovering places where the food is honest, the portions are generous and the prices aren’t ridiculous, this might be one to try next time you’re in the capital.
