If you regularly drive between Icod de los Vinos and El Tanque, you might want to give yourself a bit more time over the next couple of weeks.
Or perhaps just avoid the area altogether if you have the option.
The Tenerife Cabildo has announced the temporary closure of an 11-kilometre stretch of the TF-5, between kilometre markers 50+900 and 62+200, while road repair work is carried out.
When will the road close?
The first closures will take place on the nights of 30 and 31 August, between 10pm and 6am.
From 1 September, the closure will also continue during the day while workers carry out cold micro-surfacing work on the road.
According to the Cabildo, the work is expected to last for around two weeks, although, as anyone who has ever waited for roadworks to finish will know, that depends on how things go.
Which areas are affected?
The works will affect the section of the TF-5 forming part of the Anillo Insular, including access points around:
- Icod de los Vinos, near the Buen Paso roundabout
- El Tanque
- The diversion towards El Amparo
Traffic will mainly be redirected via the TF-42 and TF-82, depending on whether you’re heading south or towards Santa Cruz.
So, if this is part of your regular route, it might be worth checking your journey before setting off.
Eleven kilometres of road closed for two weeks is not the sort of surprise you want to discover when you’re already halfway to wherever you’re going.
