Darío Bardam Brings ‘Phantom’ to La Laguna for an Unusual Dance Performance

Dance and music don’t always have to work together neatly. Sometimes, the interesting stuff happens when neither one quite manages to take control.

That’s the idea behind PHANTOM, a contemporary dance performance by Darío Bardam, coming to the Sala de Cámara at Teatro Leal in La Laguna on Friday 23 October at 7pm.

Part of the Danza en breve programme, the piece explores what happens when dance and music try to become one. The attempt fails, but something else emerges from the space between them: a strange presence made up of rhythms, shapes and traces that never quite belong to anyone.

Bardam describes this presence as a phantom, with dance and music acting as mediums for one another. Neither leads and neither follows. Instead, they create an atmospheric performance that plays with ideas of possession, enchantment and the uneasy relationship between movement and sound.

Bardam is responsible for the creation, direction and dancing, with music by Ant Cosmos featuring original music by Ninf.A. The production also brings together a wider creative team working across artistic support, costume, styling, lighting, video and photography.

The performance takes place at 7pm on Friday 23 October at the Sala de Cámara, Teatro Leal, in La Laguna, North Tenerife.
