CD Tenerife picked up their third win of the LALIGA HYPERMOTION season on Sunday, beating CD Leganés 2-0 at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López.
And there was one obvious hero.
Enric Gallego scored both goals as Álvaro Cervera’s side put in a controlled performance and moved to 10 points from a possible 15.
Tenerife Start on the Front Foot
Tenerife were on top from the opening stages and created the first real opportunity in the 10th minute.
Nacho Gil found space for a low shot, but Leganés goalkeeper Luca Zidane was equal to it.
The pressure continued and Tenerife got their reward in the 23rd minute.
Gallego was brought down inside the box and, after a VAR review, Tenerife were awarded a penalty. The striker made no mistake, sending a low effort past Zidane to put the home side 1-0 ahead.
Leganés struggled to create much in open play, with their main threat coming from occasional counterattacks.
Gallego thought he had doubled the lead in the 32nd minute after getting on the end of a cross from Víctor Moreno, but the flag went up for offside.
Tenerife went into the break with a deserved 1-0 advantage.
Gallego Strikes Again
Leganés showed more attacking intent after the restart, but Tenerife continued to look dangerous going forward.
Gil came close again in the 60th minute with another effort that forced Zidane into action.
Then, in the 73rd minute, Tenerife finally got the second goal.
Gerard Valentín, making his Tenerife debut, produced an excellent cross for Gallego, who finished it off to make it 2-0.
That took his league tally to four goals already this season.
Not a bad way to introduce yourself to the Tenerife fans.
Ten Points From Five Games
The final score reflected a convincing Tenerife performance, with Cervera’s side controlling large parts of the match and keeping Leganés at arm’s length.
The victory takes Tenerife to 10 points from their opening five matches, putting them firmly in the mix near the top of the early LALIGA HYPERMOTION table.
There isn’t much time to celebrate, though.
The next challenge comes on 19 September, when Tenerife travel to face CD Castellón, with kick-off scheduled for 5:30pm local time.
