Wizz Air Launches First Domestic Spanish Route Between Tenerife North and Santiago de Compostela

Wizz Air has started operating domestic flights in Spain, with its first Spanish domestic route connecting Tenerife North Airport in La Laguna with Santiago de Compostela.

It’s a useful addition for anyone travelling between Tenerife and Galicia, particularly as it gives residents another direct option without having to mess around with connections through Madrid or Barcelona.

The Tenerife Cabildo has welcomed the new route, with Vice President and Tourism Councillor Lope Afonso describing Wizz Air’s decision to expand into domestic Spanish routes as an important step for the island.

He also pointed to the wider benefit for Tenerife, with better connections helping residents, local businesses and visitors while supporting a more balanced tourism model.

Another useful connection from Tenerife

Dimple Melwani, CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, said the direct connection with Santiago de Compostela was particularly good news for the north of the island.

The route gives both residents and visitors another way of getting around Spain and adds to Tenerife’s growing network of national connections.

For anyone who regularly travels between the Canary Islands and mainland Spain, more choice is rarely a bad thing. Especially when the alternative involves changing planes and wondering whether your luggage has decided to take a holiday of its own.

Wizz Air expands in Spain

The airline’s Route Director, Samuel Ferrera, said Tenerife was an important destination for Wizz Air and that the company was pleased to begin its domestic operations in Spain with this connection.

Wizz Air currently operates a fleet of around 270 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft and says it will carry more than 3.6 million passengers in 2026 across its Tenerife operations.

The airline already has a significant presence at Tenerife South Airport, with international routes connecting the island with several European destinations.

The new Santiago de Compostela service adds another piece to the island’s transport network and gives Tenerife North Airport an additional direct connection with mainland Spain.
