€13.8 Million TF-1 Upgrade Approved to Resurface 18 Kilometres of Tenerife’s Motorway

The Cabildo de Tenerife has approved a €13.86 million project to resurface almost 18.6 kilometres of the TF-1 motorway, one of the island’s busiest roads.

The work will cover the section between kilometre 1.4 and kilometre 20, improving the route that links Santa Cruz de Tenerife with Güímar. The project has been divided into two contracts, with each expected to take six months to complete.

Improving One of Tenerife’s Busiest Roads

The TF-1 is one of Tenerife’s main transport corridors, carrying more than 70,000 vehicles every day.

According to the Cabildo, the resurfacing project is considered a strategic investment that will improve road safety, enhance traffic flow and help preserve one of the island’s most important transport links.

The work will involve a full rehabilitation of the road surface, creating a safer and more durable carriageway for drivers.

Two Sections of Work

The project has been split into two sections:

  • Lot 1: From Santa Cruz de Tenerife to El Rosario, awarded to Transformaciones y Servicios S.L. for €7.51 million.
  • Lot 2: From El Rosario through Candelaria to Arafo, awarded to Señalizaciones Villar S.A. for €6.35 million.

Together, the contracts represent a total investment of €13,855,850.25.

More Than Just Resurfacing

In addition to laying new asphalt, the project includes several improvements designed to enhance safety and extend the lifespan of the motorway.

These include:

  • Upgraded road markings and signage
  • New roadside safety systems
  • Technical improvements to improve long-term pavement durability

Cabildo President Rosa Dávila said the investment forms part of the island’s ongoing efforts to modernise Tenerife’s road network and improve safety and comfort for the thousands of motorists who use the TF-1 every day.

The work is expected to deliver a stronger, safer and more resilient motorway capable of meeting both current and future traffic demands.
