While stylish beach clubs continue to appear across many coastlines, El Bollullo in La Orotava has remained faithful to what has made it a favourite for generations.
Located beside one of Tenerife’s most beautiful black sand beaches, this family-run restaurant has been serving fresh Canarian food since 1969, welcoming everyone from local fishermen and surfers to residents and visitors looking for an authentic dining experience.
A Local Favourite for More Than 50 Years
Unlike modern beach clubs, El Bollullo focuses on simple, traditional cuisine rather than luxury surroundings.
Its menu features local favourites including:
- Fresh fish
- Fried calamari
- Traditional Canarian tapas
- Seafood dishes prepared with local ingredients
Since 2017, the restaurant has been managed by Magda Ortiz and her team, who have continued the tradition of warm hospitality that has kept customers returning year after year.
According to Magda, many visitors have been coming to El Bollullo for more than three decades, drawn by its relaxed atmosphere and unique location.
Worth the Walk
Reaching El Bollullo requires a walk down a steep path, and the beach is known for its strong Atlantic currents. However, many visitors consider the effort worthwhile for the spectacular scenery, peaceful surroundings and welcoming restaurant.
The area also enjoys its own sunny microclimate, often offering clear skies even when other parts of the north of Tenerife are experiencing cloud or rain.
Parking Challenges
In recent years, the closure of a nearby car park has created difficulties for visitors, particularly older people and families. While environmental concerns have surrounded the parking area, local businesses have expressed concern about the impact on accessibility.
Despite these challenges, El Bollullo continues to be one of the north of Tenerife’s best-loved coastal restaurants, maintaining the authentic character that has made it a favourite for more than half a century.
