For two days this summer, La Laguna will step back in time.
On 1 and 2 August, the historic Exconvento de Santo Domingo will be transformed into a traditional Corral de Comedias for the first Siglo de Oro Ciudad de La Laguna Festival, celebrating the literature, theatre and music of Spain’s Golden Age.
Set in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage city, the festival promises a packed programme inspired by one of the richest periods in Spanish cultural history.
A Weekend of Classic Theatre
Organised by Timaginas Teatro, with support from La Laguna Town Hall, the new festival aims to make Spain’s classic works accessible, entertaining and engaging for modern audiences.
Visitors can enjoy performances based on the works of literary giants including Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega, bringing some of Spain’s best-known stories back to the stage.
More Than Just Theatre
The programme extends beyond dramatic performances.
Across the two days there will also be:
- Live music inspired by the period
- Poetry recitals
- Literary talks and cultural gatherings
- Historical scenery and themed photo opportunities
The aim is to recreate the atmosphere of a traditional Golden Age theatre while encouraging visitors to immerse themselves in the culture of the era.
A Strong Line-up of Theatre Companies
Several respected theatre companies will take part in the inaugural festival, including:
- Timaginas Teatro
- Imprudentes Teatro
- Zalatta Teatro
- Fundación Siglo de Oro
Together they will present a varied programme designed to appeal to both lovers of classical theatre and newcomers discovering these works for the first time.
