Tenerife Restaurant Competes for Spain’s Best Taco 2026 Title

Tenerife is once again making its mark on the national food scene, this time with a taco that’s hoping to be crowned Spain’s Best Taco 2026.

Chile Verde, a popular Mexican restaurant in Puerto de la Cruz, has been selected as one of more than 50 establishments taking part in the IV Campeonato de Tacos de España, which began on 28 May.

Meet the Taco Representing Tenerife

The restaurant’s entry is called Taco de Asada, a recipe inspired by traditional Mexican flavours with carefully selected ingredients.

The taco features:

✔ Red tortilla made with guajillo chilli

✔ Fresh guacamole

✔ Grilled beef entrecôte

✔ Ranchera sauce

✔ Onion

✔ Coriander

✔ Lime

Other ingredients include corn flour, green tomato, red tomato, garlic, jalapeño chilli and avocado.

Despite its bold flavours, the taco has a mild spice level, rated one out of three on the competition’s heat scale.

The competition isn’t decided solely by professional judges.

Customers visiting participating restaurants can score the tacos based on:

These public ratings will be combined with assessments from:

Final Takes Place in June

The winner of Spain’s Best Taco 2026 will be decided on 30 June during a blind tasting conducted by a professional jury.
