If Thursday evenings normally involve scrolling through Netflix wondering what to watch… La Laguna has a better option.
Teatro Leal hosts a double concert night this Thursday 21 May, bringing together Sara Rioja and Juana Aguirre for an evening mixing acoustic sounds with immersive electronic elements.
Two artists. Two very different styles. Same stage.
Sara Rioja Opens the Night with Cambiar las Tornas
📍 Chamber Hall
🕗 20:00
Sara Rioja arrives with “Cambiar las Tornas”, based on her 2024 album of the same name.
The performance takes a more intimate format, built around:
• Voice
• Piano
• Guitar
She will also be joined on stage by composer Irene Fariña.
The show explores themes of personal change, resilience and transformation through a stripped-back acoustic setting.
Rioja brings plenty of experience too, having spent more than a decade working in London, including time connected with studios such as Abbey Road.
Juana Aguirre Takes Over the Main Stage
📍 Main Hall
🕘 21:00
Later in the evening, Juana Aguirre presents “Los Pilares”, a concert built around material from her albums:
• Claroscuro
• Anónimo
The performance combines acoustic intimacy with atmospheric electronic layers and follows Aguirre’s artistic evolution over recent years.
Interestingly, the Tenerife concert is also the only stop on her European tour, where she will preview new material from her upcoming work.
Not bad for a Thursday night in La Laguna really.
Opening Performance by Mariana
Before Aguirre takes the stage, the audience will also hear from Mariana, one of the Canary Islands’ emerging singer-songwriters.
She currently presents material from her latest album:
“Casa Chica”
Following her earlier debut EP A Partir del Final.
Part of the Efecto Laguna Programme
Both performances form part of Efecto Laguna, the monthly cultural programme created by La Laguna City Council to support local and regional artists.
A nice reminder that Tenerife’s music scene keeps quietly producing interesting things while everyone else is looking at the beaches.
