GastroCanarias 2026 Returns Bigger Than Ever with 14 Championships and Galicia as Guest Destination

GastroCanarias is back this May…

And at this point it’s less of a food fair and more of a full-scale invasion of chefs, bartenders, baristas, bakers and people taking coffee far more seriously than most of us ever will.

Tenerife’s Biggest Gastronomy Event Returns

📍 Recinto Ferial de Tenerife
🗓 May 19th to 21st, 2026

The XI edition of GastroCanarias will once again turn Santa Cruz into the centre of the Canary Islands food and hospitality world for three straight days.

This year’s event will feature:

🍷 Around 80 exhibitors
🏪 More than 200 stands
👨‍🍳 Industry professionals from across the islands
🥖 Food producers, restaurants, hotels and suppliers

All squeezed into the massive main exhibition hall.

14 Official Championships This Year

And honestly… the competitions alone sound exhausting.

GastroCanarias 2026 will host 14 official championships covering everything from cooking to cocktails and artisan bread.

Among the main competitions:

🍕 Canary Islands Pizza Championship
🥪 Signature Canarian Sandwich Championship
🍰 Pastry Championship
🍸 Cocktail Championship
🍺 Beer Pouring Championship
☕ Barista Championship
🥖 Artisan Bakery Championship
🍳 Breakfast Toast Championship
🥗 Russian Salad Championship

Yes… even ensaladilla now has a championship. Welcome to 2026.

Galicia Named Guest Destination

One of the biggest changes this year is the introduction of an official guest destination.

And Galicia gets the honour first.

The idea is to expand GastroCanarias beyond the islands and strengthen connections with other important gastronomy regions across Spain.

Which probably means a dangerous amount of seafood and wine arriving from northern Spain for a few days.

More Than Just Food Competitions

The event is also leaning heavily into industry trends this year.

New talks and discussion spaces will cover topics like:

  • Gastronomy and health
  • Hotel breakfasts as part of the guest experience
  • Women leading the modern wine industry
  • Specialty coffee culture
  • Hospitality staffing and training

There’ll even be a presentation of the first chocolate made entirely using cacao grown in the Canary Islands.

Which feels very Tenerife somehow.

MasterChef Also Arrives

GastroCanarias will also host the presentation of:

🎥 El Reto de MasterChef World Tenerife 2026

The digital version of the popular cooking competition.

Worth Knowing

GastroCanarias has quietly become one of the biggest hospitality events in the Canary Islands.

And these days it’s not just about chefs cooking fancy things on stage…

It’s networking, tourism, trends, business deals, coffee competitions and enough food samples to ruin anyone’s diet by lunchtime.
