Tenerife is preparing for one of the most historic visits the island has seen in years…
With Pope León XIV set to spend a packed day between La Laguna and Santa Cruz on June 12th.
Arrival at Los Rodeos
✈️ 9:10am — Tenerife North Airport
The Pope will land at Los Rodeos Airport, where he’ll be welcomed by Bishop Eloy Santiago alongside civil authorities.
Assuming, of course, the usual Tenerife North fog behaves itself for once.
First Stop: Las Raíces
🕤 9:30am — Las Raíces Migrant Centre
León XIV will begin his visit with a stop at the Emergency Humanitarian Reception Centre in Las Raíces.
There, he’ll meet:
- Migrants currently staying at the centre
- Volunteers and staff
- Church organisations involved in humanitarian support
Migration and integration remain central themes of the Canary Islands leg of his visit.
Main Event in La Laguna
🕙 10:10am — Plaza del Cristo
The Pope will then travel to La Laguna to lead a meeting with church groups and organisations working with migrants across the Canary Islands.
The gathering will include testimonies from people arriving from:
🌍 Africa
🌎 Latin America
Alongside volunteers involved in support and integration projects.
Route Through the Historic Centre
After the event, León XIV will travel through the pedestrian streets of:
- Viana
- San Agustín
Where he’s expected to greet vulnerable residents supported by Church centres in the city, including:
- Elderly people
- People with disabilities
- Social care residents
Brief Stop at the Bishop’s Palace
📍 Palacio Salazar
The Pope will pause briefly at the Bishop’s residence before continuing towards Santa Cruz.
Papal Route Through Santa Cruz
🚗 Near La Salle School, León XIV will transfer to the Popemobile to continue through parts of Santa Cruz on the way to the port area.
Large crowds are expected along the route.
Final Mass at the Port
⛪ 12:15pm — Port of Los Llanos
The final Eucharist of the Pope’s apostolic visit to Spain will take place at the port in Santa Cruz.
Before the Mass begins, the Pope will also tour part of the port area greeting attendees.
Departure Back to Rome
✈️ 2:30pm — Tenerife North Airport
Following the ceremony, León XIV will return to Los Rodeos Airport for the official farewell before departing back to Rome.
A very short visit overall…
But one likely to leave a lasting mark on Tenerife.
