Another 47 Affordable Homes Approved in South Tenerife…

Housing in Tenerife isn’t getting any easier… and everyone knows it.

So any new development helps… but it also raises the obvious question.

Is it even close to enough?

What’s Been Approved

The Cabildo has given the green light to 47 new affordable homes in Granadilla de Abona, in an area called Los Hueros.

The project, Cuevas Cho Portada, is aimed at long-term subsidised rentals… which is exactly what’s missing right now.

Not holiday lets. Not short stays.

Actual housing.

The Investment

It’s a €9.6 million project, part of a wider push to spread developments across the island rather than stacking everything in one place.

On paper… that makes sense.

Trying to Speed Things Up

They’re also pushing this through as an urgent process, which should mean less waiting around and quicker construction.

That’s the plan anyway.

The Bigger Picture

This isn’t the only project in motion.

Across Tenerife right now:

  • 300+ homes are in progress
  • 111 already out to tender
  • 191 under contract
  • Another 110 approved in Adeje and Arona

So there is movement… more than there has been in years.

The Reality

Here’s the issue.

Demand is miles ahead of supply.

Prices keep climbing, long-term rentals are harder to find, and a lot of people are being squeezed out… especially locals and workers.

So while 47 homes is a step forward…

…it barely scratches the surface.

Final Thought

It’s good to see things finally moving.

But until supply starts catching up properly, this is still a long game.

And right now… most people are still waiting.
