If you’ve been watching the holiday rental situation here… things are starting to move.
La Laguna Council is now working with the Canary Islands Government to figure out how to apply the new Law 6/2025… which is all about regulating tourist rentals properly.
What’s Actually Happening
This week’s meeting was more about how to make it work than announcing anything final.
They’re looking at:
- Where holiday rentals should be allowed
- How to handle existing properties already registered
- Who controls what between local and regional government
- And what resources are needed to actually enforce it
So… the practical side of things.
Why It Matters in La Laguna
La Laguna isn’t your typical tourist area.
You’ve got a mix of:
- Residential neighbourhoods
- A university city
- A UNESCO historic centre
Which makes it a bit more complicated than just saying yes or no to rentals.
The Approach
The focus seems to be on:
- Sustainability
- Legal clarity
- Protecting housing for residents
And, importantly… trying to avoid chaos when the rules come in.
The Reality
Nothing changes overnight.
But this is the groundwork.
The kind of meetings that don’t get much attention… but end up shaping what actually happens next.
If you own a rental, are thinking about one, or just live in the area… it’s something to keep an eye on.
