The Best Cachopo in the Canary Islands Is Right Here in Tenerife

You don’t expect the best cachopo in the Canary Islands to be in Tenerife.

But here we are.

Not Just Another Award

A restaurant in Los Cristianos has just taken the title… and not in a small competition either.

This was decided in Oviedo, where cachopo is basically a religion.

So winning there… that’s saying something.

What They Actually Made

The winning dish came from Taberna Vasca Txupinazo…the restaurant has been recommended by many of our readers in our sister publication, TastetheCanaries.com.

Beef tenderloin, porcini mushrooms, truffle, cured beef… not exactly your standard pub version.

It’s one of those where you can tell they’ve taken a traditional dish and pushed it up a level.

And They Didn’t Stop There

They didn’t just win one thing.

They also came second in the world in the fish category with a cod cachopo… which sounds odd until you realise it clearly works.

And another of their places picked up an award for the best tripe in the Canaries.

So overall… a pretty good trip.

Eight Awards and Counting

Between their restaurants, they’re now up to eight international awards.

Not bad for a group based in the south of Tenerife.

And it’s been building over a few years… this isn’t a one-off win.

Why It Works

It’s not complicated.

Good ingredients. Proper cooking. And a bit of creativity without going too far.

That balance is usually where things either work… or fall apart.

They’ve got it right.

If You’re in the South

If you’re anywhere near Los Cristianos and you like your food, this is one to add to the list.

Just don’t expect a quick, light meal.

Cachopo done properly… isn’t that.

Worth Trying

Tenerife’s food scene has quietly stepped up over the years.

This is just another example of it.
