Trying to find the best bocadillo in Santa Cruz is a bit of a wild goose chase.
There are loads of places… half of them look decent… and then you end up with dry bread and something questionable in the middle. It happens.
So when something like this comes along, it’s actually worth paying attention.
The best bocadillos in Santa Cruz (Suroeste)
For the second year running, three places have come out on top in the Ruta del Bocadillazo:
1. Delicias Maru
Back-to-back winner. That’s not luck… that’s consistency.
2. Cafetería Peti Azul
Always there or thereabouts. Solid choice.
3. Cafetería Alisios
Rounding off the top three again. Clearly doing something right.
This year had 31 places involved and over 1,000 people voting, so it’s not just someone’s cousin picking the winner.
It’s local people
What I like about this is that it’s proper local.
No nonsense. No overhyped “foodie” spots. Just neighbourhood cafés doing what they’ve always done… feeding people well at normal prices.
And it gets people out of their usual bubble. Most visitors stick to the same areas, but places like the Suroeste have loads of hidden gems that don’t shout about themselves.
Is it worth going out of your way?
Depends what you’re expecting.
If you want some life-changing sandwich… probably not.
If you want a proper bocadillo… fresh bread, decent filling, made by someone who’s done it a thousand times before… then yes, absolutely.
Sometimes simple done well is as good as it gets.
