Mount Teide the highest point in Spain and an active volcano

Most people come to Tenerife for the sunshine.

They don’t always realise they’re standing on a living, breathing volcanic island.

Yes, Teide is still active. Quiet… but active.

And it’s not the only one. Over in La Palma you’ve got Cumbre Vieja, which reminded everyone in 2021 exactly who’s in charge. Lanzarote has Timanfaya, where the ground is still warm enough to cook lunch if you fancy it.

Every island here tells a similar story. Fire. Pressure. Time. And eventually… well, something beautiful.

The beaches, the cliffs, the black sand, the pine forests. None of it exists without volcanic activity. It’s dramatic, slightly unpredictable, and very Canary Islands.

It’s also a brilliant opportunity to actually learn something while you’re here. Geology, nature, history… not just sangria and sunbeds.

Tenerife isn’t just a holiday destination. It’s a living museum of volcanic power.

And once you understand that, you see the island differently.
