Tram changes during Santa Cruz Carnival

Right, quick heads-up if you’re heading into Santa Cruz for Carnival.

And if you’re not… you probably should be. It’s madness. In a good way.

Tram changes during Santa Cruz Carnival

Metrotenerife is making a few temporary changes to keep things moving while half the island descends on the capital in fancy dress.

Here’s what you need to know.

Closed stops

The following tram stops will be closed at certain times during the main Carnival events:

  • Weyler
  • La Paz
  • Teatro Guimerá

If those are your usual stops, don’t just rock up and hope for the best. It won’t end well.

Extra trams and new timings

The good news is they’re putting on double tram units every 10 minutes, so capacity is up. That’s sensible, to be fair.

Service times are also extended, especially late into the night, to cope with people heading in and out of the centre.

Exact timings can vary depending on the day and event, so it’s worth checking before you leave the house. Carnival doesn’t run on a neat little schedule.

My advice

  • Expect crowds. Obvious, but still worth saying.
  • Walk a bit further to an open stop if you can.
  • Don’t leave it tight if you’ve got dinner booked or friends waiting.
  • And maybe don’t wear your best shoes. Just saying.

Not the most exciting topic, but it matters. Transport chaos can ruin an otherwise great night.

Enjoy Carnival if you’re going.

Avoid Santa Cruz completely if you’re not. Both solid options.
