The Senior Carnival Queen Chosen in Los Cristianos

Carnival season in Tenerife isn’t exactly a quiet affair…as most people who’ve spent time here in February or March will already know.

Last night in Los Cristianos (Arona) one of the more charming events of the carnival calendar took place… the Gala for the Election of the Senior Carnival Queen.

The event brought together many of the older residents of the municipality who take part in the festivities every year, proving once again that carnival here really is for everyone, not just the younger crowd in fancy dress.

The evening included performances from the choreographic groups of the Patronato de Cultura, Ballet Baila Pa Mí, and the Carnival song performed by Kiara Comellas.

There were also appearances from well-known Canary Islands performers including Pepe Benavente, along with a special performance from Helena Bianco.

The gala itself was presented by Daida Reyes and Alberto Castilla, who guided the audience through the performances and the selection of the new Reina de los Mayores.

Events like this are a big part of the International Carnival of Los Cristianos, and if you’ve ever watched the locals take part, you’ll know they enjoy it just as much as the big headline galas.

Possibly more.
