Tenerife Launches €370,000 Programme to Support Youth Projects Across the Island

Finding ways to keep young people engaged, active and learning outside the classroom isn’t always easy. It takes resources, planning and often a bit of creativity from local councils.

That’s where a new initiative from the Cabildo de Tenerife is hoping to help.

The island government has announced a €370,000 funding programme designed to support youth activities across all 31 municipalities in Tenerife. The initiative, called “Tenerife Youth in Action”, will allow town halls to organise projects aimed at young people aged 12 to 30.

According to the Cabildo, the programme could reach more than 5,000 young people across the island.

The initiative is now in its third edition, with municipalities given one month to submit their applications once the official call is published in the island’s Official Gazette.

The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, explained that the goal is to give municipalities the tools they need to organise activities that help young people develop skills, creativity and social participation.

Meanwhile, the island’s Councillor for Youth and Training, Serafín Mesa, pointed out that this funding line was first introduced in 2024 to ensure that young people across Tenerife had access to educational, cultural and leisure activities in their own communities.

Before that, the Cabildo had very limited involvement in municipal youth policies.

Mesa also highlighted the scale of the island’s youth population, which currently stands at around 200,000 young people, making programmes like this an important part of creating spaces where they can learn, socialise and develop new interests.

The previous edition of the programme in 2025 proved popular, with 36 projects launched across 27 municipalities. These initiatives included workshops, competitions, youth events, environmental activities, health and wellbeing programmes, and projects aimed at preventing addictions.

The idea, according to the Cabildo, is not just to provide entertainment but to create experiences that help young people grow both personally and socially.

Municipalities interested in taking part can submit their applications through the Cabildo de Tenerife’s online portal.

Projects that receive funding will need to be carried out between 1 May 2026 and 31 December 2027.
