Ruta del Agua 2026 returns to Adeje this March

One of Adeje’s most unique cultural events, Ruta del Agua, will return on Sunday 22 March 2026, offering visitors a theatrical journey through the history and traditions of the town.

The event, organised by the Municipal School of Folklore of Adeje, has been held since 2016 and aims to revive the stories, customs and traditional occupations that shaped the historic relationship between the people of Adeje and water.

More than just a performance, the initiative helps preserve and share the cultural identity of the town, highlighting the importance of water in the development of the local community.

A theatrical route through history

The event begins at 11:00, when free tickets will be distributed outside Casa Fuerte de Adeje, available until capacity is reached.

At 11:30, the theatrical route will begin at the entrance of Barranco del Infierno, guiding participants through a staged experience that blends storytelling, theatre and folklore.

From 12:00, the doors of Casa Fuerte will open to host the main theatrical and musical performance, bringing together traditional music, acting and historical interpretation.

Recognising Tenerife’s water heritage

Ruta del Agua has also been included in the “Tradiciones de Tenerife” calendar, promoted by the Rural Action Group of Tenerife in collaboration with the Cabildo de Tenerife, Agrocabildo and the Tenerife Rural Foundation.

Its inclusion highlights the importance of preserving and celebrating Tenerife’s historic water culture, which has played a vital role in shaping the island’s identity and development.

The event offers locals and visitors a chance to experience Adeje’s heritage in a unique and immersive way.
