La Laguna pay tribute to the women that have shaped the life of the municipality

La Laguna is doing something right this 8th March.

They’re paying tribute to women who’ve genuinely shaped the social and community life of the municipality. Not influencers. Not headline chasers. Real women who’ve rolled their sleeves up over the years and actually done the work.

And I like that.

On top of that, they’re publishing a commemorative book titled “Mujeres que inspiran”, focused on the stories of fourteen women from different neighbourhoods and backgrounds.

Fourteen lives. Fourteen sets of graft, resilience and probably a fair bit of quiet sacrifice along the way.

This is the sort of thing that matters.

Because community life in places like La Laguna doesn’t just “happen”. It’s built slowly. School by school. Association by association. Family by family. Often by women who never expected applause.

If you’ve spent any real time in Tenerife, especially outside the tourist bubble, you’ll know exactly what I mean. The island runs on community networks. Local fiestas. Cultural groups. Parent associations. Social initiatives. And behind a lot of it, there are women keeping the wheels turning.

Not glamorous work.

Important work.

Publishing a book is a nice touch too. It means these stories don’t just get a one-day mention and disappear. They’re recorded. Remembered. Passed on.

That’s how you build identity in a place.

Whatever your views on 8-M, highlighting real contribution rather than slogans feels like the right direction to me.

Quiet impact tends to outlast loud noise.
