Carnival in Los Cristianos Ends March 16 with the Burial of the Sardine

All good carnivals have to come to an end eventually… and in Los Cristianos, that moment arrived on March 16.

The Carnaval Internacional de Los Cristianos wrapped up with one of its most traditional and entertaining events — the Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine), followed by the Baile de la Viuda.

If you’ve never seen it before, it’s exactly as strange and funny as it sounds.

A parade with humour and music

The evening begins with a procession setting off from the Centro Cultural de Los Cristianos.

From there, the parade moved along Avenida Suecia and headed down towards Los Cristianos beach, accompanied by plenty of music, costumes and the usual carnival-style humour.

DJs keeping the party going

Along the route the atmosphere was kept lively by DJ Carlos Delgado and DJ Javi Plasencia, who where providing the soundtrack for the final celebration.

Plenty of music, dancing and the sort of slightly chaotic energy that only carnival can produce.

The final farewell

The Burial of the Sardine traditionally symbolises the end of the carnival season, marking the moment when the festivities finally come to a close.

In reality though, it’s just another excuse for one last party before things return to normal.
